In addition to the after care program, students have the option of participating in after enriching school clubs. Each club is operated by a GDMS teacher and meets one day a week. For the 2011 - 2012 school year, the following after school clubs are offered.

Kids Cooking Club
Mondays, 4 – 5 PM
Ms. Erma

Open to students age 4 – 12 years old
Cooking helps kids learn and grow up in the kitchen. The Kids Cooking Club will teach children how to prepare breakfast foods, healthy snacks, main dishes, and desserts. In the club, children will learn about kitchen safety, spreading, pouring, dinner etiquette and manners, peeling, nutrition and healthy eating, adding ingredients, and helping in the kitchen. Older kids will learn how to read recipes, read labels, use a microwave, write out a shopping list, and plan a menu.
Children should be involved in cooking activities for because
§ They learn about nutrition and healthy eating
§ It boosts their self esteem
§ They will be more apt to eat what they make
§ They learn hands-on lessons in science, language, math, and creativity
§ They can contribute to the family and feel the importance of helping

The Performing Arts Club at GDMS is invested in giving each child the chance to shine in his/ her own light. The Performing Arts Club will help your child learn skills in reading emotion through face, body, and voice expression. Your child will learn musicality, dance, memorization skills, how to be part of a cast, and how to shine with confidence. Being a part of a cast teaches children to become team players s
upporting his/ her peers by fulfilling a part and spreading encouragement for a job well done. Most of all the Performing Arts Club is going to be a club where the children can have some fun!
This club involves participation from parents, particularly close to the end of the final performance. Also, some children will need to practice their lines at home to successfully fulfill their roles.
Class schedule:
October: Understanding emotion – a look at emotion and the characteristics involved in showing emotion, including how the face, voice, and body express emotion.
November: Acting 101 – learn how to get into many different character roles; learn behaviorism of different people, animals, plants, and even non-living objects.
December: Music and voice – work on musical performance, including simple tunes, voice projection, rhythm, and presentation. Students will give a short performance at the Winter Program.
January: Movement and dance – work on movement in relationship to different roles and choreography that can enhance a performance.
February: Calling all cast members – final decisions for the final performance will be made. At this time, auditions and script practice will begin.
March: Memorization – work on skill to help with memorization of lines.
April: Performance preparation – one-on-one, small group, and complete cast rehearsals.
May: Performance month – put the finishing touches on the final performance. Lights, camera, action. Showtime!

Children’s yoga is a natural and health way to exercise, relax, focus, and strengthen their mind/ body/ spirit connection. Yoga games, breathing meditations, and deep relaxations are wonderful self-help therapies for hyperactivity and have helped with ADD/ ADHD, Autism, and children’s health and well-being. Yoga helps children develop better body awareness, self-control, flexibility, and coordination. They can carry these skills beyond the class and into their daily routines.

Art is a visual language, which relies on the use of emotion, imagination, and intuition. The GDMS Art Club will introduce students in sequence or as they show interest to the following art projects, skills, and crafts:

§ Print making (carved printing plates, printing on paper, printing on clothes)
